Mrs. William Sidener, 77, well known local resident died at her home 312 E. Jefferson Street, Friday night. Although Mrs. Sidener had been ill for 3 weeks her death came suddenly and as a shock to members of her family and her many friends. Emma Ashenhurst Sidener was born at Pleasant Hill, now Wingate. She spent many years in this city and has a host of friends. Her husband died 7 years ago and she was also preceded in death by a son, John in 1913. One son, Walter, of 402 E. College street survives. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be made in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery, The Rev. BE Antrobus will preach the funeral sermon. Emma Ashenhust the daughter of John and Katherine Austin Ashenhust was born at Pleasant Hill, now Wingate May 5, 1855. When she was 8 years old her father passed away. Her mother and family then moved to Crawfordsville where she grew to womanhood, attending private and public schools. She was in the class when high school work was first introducted into the school. She, together with Mrs. MW Bruner, Mrs. BF Crabbs, Mrs. Laura Ross Wright, Mrs. James E. Evans, Miss Mattie Kenney, Miss Mellie Blair, Miss Mary Hannah Krout and Miss Carrie Krout organized the first Greek Letter Society in the school, known as Kamma Delta and were also called Owls Club. She later taught in the county and city schools until her marriage June 28, 1876 to William Wallace Sidener. She united with the First Baptist Church in 1883. In 1855 she and her family moved to Armour S. Dakota where 10 years of pioneer life was spent. While in the west she helped organize the First Baptist church of Armour and held the office of clerk until her return to Indiana; she also was active in WCTU and civic work. In 1894 the family returned to Indiana and has live dina nd around Crawfordsville ever since. She has been active in the First Baptist Church work, president of Woman's Missionary Society for years was teaching a class at the time of her death. She was a life member of the Indiana State convention board, she was very active in the organization of the Community house, being its first president and has been a member of the board since. Mrs. Sidener was very much interested in the Woman's Relief Corps, serving as its president and later served as its treasurer for a number of years. She was always interested in all the political and civic life of the community. Mrs. Sidener was the last of a family of five, Mrs. Alex Duncan, Mrs. WIlliam Hurley, Mrs. Henry Lalley and William Ashenhurst preceding her in death. Her husband, William W. Sidener passed away April 1926 and one son John W. Sidener passed away Dec 1913 and one grandson, Austin Sidener Dec 1918. She is survived by one son, Walter Austin Sidener, 402 E. College Street, one grandson, William Curstis Sidener, one granddaughter, Edith Sidener, a large number of nieces and nephews and host of friends.
